YOUNG_ADULLLT panel at CESE Conference

A few scholars involved in the YOUNG_ADULLLT project participated in the XXVIII Conference organised by the Comparative Education Society in Europe (CESE), which this year took place in Nicosia (Cyprus) from May 29 to June 1 2018 and hosted by the University of Cyprus.

The main theme of the conference was "Identities and Education: Comparative Perspectives in an Age of Crisis". Two of the early career researchers of the consortium, Sarah Schaufler (University of Munster) and Judith Jacovkis (Autonomous University of Barcelona), organised a thematically focused panel entitled "Shaping young adult identities through LLL policies. Between Standardisation and individualisation".
Three other research teams involved in the YOUNG_ADULLLT project took part in the panel presenting preliminary work using data from the project. The panel session was introduced by the Principal Investigator of the project, Marcelo Parreira do Amaral and chaired by Marvin Erfurth, both based at the University of Munster. The presentations took place on Wednesday 30th May 2018 in the following order:

    • "The regional governance of skills and its implications for young adults' transitions" Queralt Capsada-Munsech (University of Glasgow) presented some comparative work on the governance of the skills supply and demand across the 18 Functional Regions under study in the project, based on a joint paper with Oscar Valiente (University of Glasgow) and Jan Peter Ganter de Otero (University of Munster)
    • "A picture of the LLL policies and their consequences in Vale do Ave region: A pathway to de-standardisation?" Mariana Rodrigues (University of Porto) presented a case study on the consequences of LLL policies for young adults in the Portuguese region, based on a joint paper with Ana Bela Ribeiro and Tiago Neves, also based at University of Porto.
    • "Young adults' needs and experiences from LLL programs" Siyka Kovacheva (Plovdiv University) presented a comparative analysis of young adults' needs and experiences across the 18 Functional Regions under study building on biographical interviews with young adults and practitioners in LLL policies, based on a joint paper with Borislava Petkova, also based at Plovdiv University.


Natalie Papanastasiou (Autonomous University of Barcelona) discussed the overall approach of the research project and also addressed the three papers separately. Her comments and questions enriched the discussion and were really appreciated by the presenters, as she raised a series of relevant issues to be addressed and discussed in order to improve the papers presented.

Over one hundred participants active in research, policy-making and policy practice from nine EU countries have visited the Final Conference & Policy Seminar of YOUNG_ADULLLT in Lisbon, February 11, 2019.
